Frequently Asked Questions

  • Here are some staff favorites! All businesses listed are within a 10 minute drive of our studio.

  • As an organization, Foci MCGA frequently does not accept small projects but there are those in our community that do!

All information regarding glass repairs or custom commissions can be found here: www.mnglassart.org/glass-commissions. Submit a form for your project or reach out to an artist directly.

  • Unfortunately we do not allow visitors to add foreign materials such as ashes to their glass projects for several factors. There is a high risk of the object breaking if it is not properly treated, and our instructors are not trained on this specific process. Additionally, we do not want to assume that everyone is comfortable handling cremated remains. We do have a number of professionals that work in our studio who specialize in making memorial cremation paperweights. Simply email us your request to forward on to them.

  • Unfortunately unless there is an event, Open House, or demonstration taking place we do not let visitors watch the artists blowing glass. Artists are paying for private rental time, and may not consent to being watched or photographed while they work. We do try to hold Open Houses and events seasonally to allow people to check out glassblowing for free!

  • Please tell us more about what you are interested in donating with the form below! If you’re looking to donate glass, we will need more information to determine its compatibility with our current studio glass types to ensure high quality for our renters.

    • Our building has ADA accessible entrances and restrooms.

    • Reserved parking is available in front of the entrance in the parking lot.

    • Individuals are permitted to bring a service animal in all areas of Foci MCGA, so long as it has been trained as a service animal in direct relation to the owner’s needs. All animals must be properly leashed/tethered. Please keep in mind that even with frequent cleaning, small glass pieces can be found on the floor of our studio. We highly suggest foot coverings for your service animal.

    • The glassblowing and flameworking experiences may not be sensory friendly to all individuals. When in the hot shop or flame shop you can expect to see other individuals present and working. You will hear the sound of glassblowing equipment, the ventilation hood, and the occasional glass piece breaking.

Foci MCGA is committed to serving all people of all abilities. If we can make additional accommodations for you, please let us know!

  • Foe-sigh!

The name Foci is the plural of focus. This relates to the multiple areas of focus a glassblower must have such as heat, gravity, and form.
