Emerging Artist Residents 2021

Announcing our 2021 Emerging Artist Residents!

Foci MCGA welcomes emerging glass artists from the greater Minnesota area to apply for a 3 month glass studio residency to explore, create, and experiment in glass processes. Jurors include Ginger Shulick Porcella, Brett Kallusky, and Kerry Morgan.

Meet the Jurors

Ginger Shulick Porcella

Ginger Shulick Porcella currently serves as the Executive Director and Chief Curator of Franconia Sculpture Park. She holds an M.A. in Socio-Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University and a B.A. in Art History from DePaul University. She was previously the Executive Director and Chief Curator of MOCA Tucson, Executive Director of the San Diego Art Institute, and the Executive Director of Art Connects New York. She has curated critically acclaimed exhibitions such as: Cyclic with Cassils and Ron Athey in the lung of Biosphere2; Blessed Be: Mysticism, Spirituality and the Occult in Contemporary Art; Dazzled: OMD, Memphis Design and Beyond; and Amir Fallah: Scatter my Ashes on Foreign on Lands. She is the Director of the forthcoming 4Ground: Midwest Land Art Biennial taking place across the upper Midwest and tribal communities in the summer of 2022. Her exhibitions have been positively reviewed in Frieze, The New York Times, and Hyperallergic, and in 2015 she was named the “Voice of the Year” by the San Diego press.

Brett Kallusky

Brett Kallusky was born in 1975 in St. Paul, MN and grew up Afton, MN. He completed his BFA in Photography at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and his MFA in Photography at Cranbrook Academy of Art.  Since 2007 he has taught photography full-time while maintaining an active photographic studio practice. His photographs have appeared in Aint-Bad Magazine, National Geographic Online, and his books include Landfill: Elegy for the Santa Maria Valley(George F Thompson publishing, 2021) and Journey with Views/Viaggio con Vista (Self-Published, 2014). Kallusky has been the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to Italy, and three Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants, and he has been a finalist for the McKnight Fellowship for Photography. Currently an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls he has received a Faculty Research Grant in support of his forthcoming book, and numerous Faculty Professional Development Grants. He resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Kerry Morgan

Kerry A. Morgan grew up in Colorado and lived in five other states before moving to the Twin Cities in 2002. She received a BA in art history and history from Smith College, and her MA and PhD in art history from the University of Kansas. She was previously a curatorial assistant in the departments of prints and drawings and contemporary art at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University; the curator of collections at the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; and most recently, the gallery and exhibits coordinator at Augsburg College (now Augsburg University).

Currently, Morgan is director of gallery and exhibition programs at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), a position she has held since 2009. As part of her responsibilities at MCAD she oversees two prestigious fellowship programs for Minnesota artists, the MCAD–Jerome Foundation Fellowships for Early Career Artists and the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Visual Artists. 

When she is not working with artists she enjoys being outdoors—walking, hiking, canoeing, fishing, picking up litter, and digging in the dirt.
