Join Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts for an visiting artist lecture by Cedric Mitchell, a Los Angeles-based glass artist. Cedric’s artistic expression draws inspiration from a captivating blend of Modern Design, Graffiti Art, Streetwear Fashion, and Memphis Milano, giving rise to a captivating array of works that span from functional masterpieces to decorative art, adorned with vivid palettes and effortlessly refined designs.
This artist lecture is an opportunity to meet a professional glass artist and hear them speak first-hand about how and why they create their artwork. The talk/presentation will be followed by a brief open question and answer period. This artist talk will also be livestreamed on Instagram for those who cannot attend in person!
The artist presentation will take place in the Threads Dance Project, which is attached to the Foci MCGA studio. Please enter through Foci MCGA, and make your way through the studio to access Threads studio.
Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP is not required, but recommended.
Artist Biography:
Cedric Major Mitchell, a Los Angeles-based glass artist originally from Oklahoma, honed his skills while studying business at Tulsa Community College. The Modern funk design he employs stands out for its vibrant colors, whimsical patterns, unconventional shapes, and the fusion of modernism and postmodernism. It rejects strict aesthetic rules, embracing individuality and self-expression. Cedric serves as the events coordinator for Crafting The Future, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to creative enrichment by connecting BIPOC artists with opportunities that propel their growth and success.
Travel & Parking: Our entrance is facing E 22nd St, beside a garage door and a small parking lot that is free to use. Additional free parking is available on the surrounding streets. One block to Hwy 55/Hiawatha Ave. Two blocks to entrance to I-94. Two blocks to Franklin LRT Station.
Metro Transit: Nearest bus stops are #56504 (22nd St E & Cedar Ave S) and #16444 (Minnehaha Ave S & 22nd St E), both on Route 9. Nearest light rail station is on Franklin Avenue (Blue Line). Both stops are within a five minute walk from the studio.
