Wonderlands: Occupying the Space between Whimsy and Mystery

A Solo Exhibition by Michael Lizama

On view: February 9 - May 5, 2024

Michael Lizama is a graphic designer, illustrator, and stained glass artist. In 1978, Lizama graduated from Colorado State University with a BFA focusing on printmaking, graphic design, and biomedical illustration. He attended glass painting workshops by the late Dick Millard at the Antrim School in New Hampshire.

While working professionally as a graphic designer, Lizama finds relief from the constraints of client-based design in creating stained glass windows depicting futuristic and otherworldly characters. His window designs incorporate repurposed glass from cathedral windows, narrating new stories inspired by his childhood in growing up in Hawaii in the 60’s and his love of nature, marine life, comics, pop culture, and all things Japanese. Lizama’s windows have received awards from the Denver Botanic Gardens Glass at the Gardens, Glass Endeavors, Artists del Norte, and the Minnesota State Fair.
