Only offered May 11, 2025 Sunday (times vary).
Priced per person. Up to 4 participants. 2 hour duration.
During your Seasonal Hot Glass Discovery, you will work one-on-one with a professional glass instructor to make a tear drop shaped vessel that can be used as a vase, oil bottle, or soap dispenser! Soap dispenser pumps and/or oil pours are included.
Our instructors will explain the safety, equipment, and tools that glassblowers use every day to create their art. Participants will have the glassblowing process demonstrated and explained to them, and then one at a time will be coached through the steps of creating a beautiful, colorful piece of their own. This hands-on process will include collecting color onto the surface of molten glass and shaping it with a variety of specialty tools while sitting at the glassblower’s bench. Not comfortable with some of the steps or equipment involved in hot glass making? Fear not, our instructors will adapt to your level of comfort in the hotshop to ensure a wonderful experience. Due to hot glass needing to be cooled at a slow rate over at least 12 hours, completed pieces will be ready for pickup the week following your Discovery.
Although you will be glassblowing, this class does not require placing mouths onto the glassblowing pipes. Hand pumps or blowhoses are used to inflate the piece along with the instructors assistance to ensure quality. Participants will have the opportunity to design and assist in creating their piece, but will be guided and assisted by instructors in order to avoid the piece breaking.
No experience is required and all materials are provided.
2 hour duration.

Class Size: Strictly limited to 4 individuals per session. For safety reasons no additional non-participating spectators or guests may join you for your experience, since space and seating is limited. For individuals who need accommodations or have caretakers, reach out to us in advance so we can advise on how to best prepare for your time at the studio and modify our space if needed.
Health: It is the responsibility of the student to take care of themselves if they possess any health or cognitive conditions that could be affected by working in Foci MCGA’s facilities. It is the responsibility of the student to notify staff of such conditions, should it affect their health and impair regular studio operations.

Clothing: Please wear comfortable cotton clothing that can get dirty and avoid items made from highly synthetic materials. Please wear closed toe shoes that cover the foot entirely (no crocs or sandals). You may want to bring something to drink as the studio can get hot and the work can be strenuous. Our studio also has a water fountain. Foci MCGA will provide safety glasses, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Gallery Special: Customers who spend $40 or more in the gallery receive 1 free "Foci-Made" pulled glass flower. The sale runs from April 19-May 11, 2025. Limit one free flower per customer, while supplies last.
